A Seven Star Tribute

Hi, everyone!

Today's OWH Sketch was inspired by a card made by Jean E. of Garden Grove, CA. Jean made so many beautiful cards for OWH. Please click here to read more about this wonderful lady. The Any Hero card below is made in Jean's memory.

We R Memory Keepers Red, White, & Blue
cardstock: AC white, blue, rusty red; Bazzill background blue; ??? background black
Recollections brads; 3 D glue dots

The dp is one of those busier sheets that I typically struggle with using. So, I kept the rest of the card really simple with solid color cardstock and simple brads. It's hard to imagine a card without any Distress Ink inks or core paper -- or stamped images. But, here it is.

It seemed a little odd to use black on the card, but the dp wasn't popping quite enough against the red base. Now, I'm thinking that maybe I should have put some black behind the 4 red/blue squares.

I'm also thinking these 4 squares should be a little to the right of where they're placed. But, the brads go through the squares and white strip -- and the white strip is adhered with six 3D glue dots. So, that white strip and 4 squares aren't moving anywhere. :)

I also wish the color of the blue cardstock appeared truer to its actual color. It is far closer to the blue in the dp than it appears here.

Parting Thoughts

Hoping to work on a Father's Day card this afternoon.

Have a great week!  Thanks for visiting and happy scrappin'!

You're overthinking it! I LOVE it just the way it is and I know that the recipient will, too. Great use of the busy paper! I have that paper, but haven't used it yet, so I'm saving your card in my inspiration file on my iPad.

You're being far too critical of all the details on this great card! It works!!! I especially love those different sized star brads! Nice job using that busy dsp - it would be in my stash forever I think :)

Your use of the 'busy' background paper works so nicely. I, too, have problems with busy (and bold) patterns! Love the red, white, and blue.

Great job making the busy paper work on a card! :) A thin layer of black might make the foursquare pop a bit more but think it looks good the way it is. Love the tinier brads on the sides to emphasize the larger star brad! :) Thanks for sharing. Tamara

Hi Sybrina! I love your card! I think we all struggle with busy paper like that and you rocked it. I love the red and white star brads.

You sound just like me, picking apart my work and trying to figure out what should have been done differently. You did a fabulous job using that "busy" paper. Going simple with the rest of the card absolutely spot on. Thanks for sharing!

Great use of the busy dp, smart to use solid CS to keep it "tone down, but more effective! TFS!

This came out very nicely Sybrina! I had to laugh a bit as I read through your post and your own critique of your work... you nailed every single thing... the thin black frame is perfect and holds it all together... the squares could have been moved a tiny bit to the right and a thin black frame behind them would have added to their 'pop' though the white band does a nice job of separating them from the background. This is a great example of a good way to use a busier paper and not have it overwhelm the design. :)
